Through this class, I learned a lot about prompt engineering! Through what I have learned, I prompted ChatGPT to help me tailor my resume to fit my two future majors.
Below is my first (original) resume. The second resume on this page is my first tailored resume, my marketing resume! To get this resume, I asked ChatGPT to help me reword my experiences to fit an entry-level marketing position, specifically focusing on my related work skills section. The third resume on this page is my second tailored resume, my management resume. To get this resume, I asked ChatGPT the same prompt I did on my first tailored resume, just focusing on an entry-level management position.
In my marketing resume, I noticed that ChatGPT kept a lot of my experiences, but reworded them to emphasize that I already had marketing experience. ChatGPT kept the experience that I dealt with customer issues, but emphasized that I did that while holding onto and representing the brand positively. The same in my management resume, it kept the experience of dealing with customer issues but emphasized that I did that while managing other things as well. I also noticed that on both resumes, it specifically focused my work-related skills to the major that I was applying for, one example is how it reworded my words “knowledgeable of phone and email etiquette” to “professional email and phone communication” as a skill.
In this task, I noticed that I had to talk to ChatGPT like a real person, but with extremely specific instructions, the more I tell AI what I want, the better result I get. I really enjoyed learning about prompt engineering and cant wait to use it again in the future.
